Pakistan Need Evolution Not Revolution

Back in 2012, a seminar "International Scenario, Pakistan and Our Responsibilities" was held in Lahore, organised by Punjab University Directorate of Student's Affairs. In that seminar Lord Nazir Ahmed, a renowned British politician and first Muslim member of British House of Lords, said that "Pakistan need evolution instead of revolution".
These two words, evolution and revolution, although closely resemble one another but have meaning absolutely antagonistic. Word "evolution" is from Latin word "evolutio", meaning "unrolling", and it is defined as "a slow, gradual and continuous development in morals and ideas". Evolution is anti-thesis of revolution. Revolution is derived from Latin word "revoluti"; meaning "implying change more or less sudden in their action, and entailing same sort of catastrophes". Both of these processes are fundamentally one and the same thing but differ according to the time of their appearance as Dick Gregory has said::
"revolution ain't nothing but an extent of evolution"
Revolutionists negate all formals, codes and orders, which to them have lost their essence and meaning. They seek for truth outside the traditional teachings of the school, criticise all those rules which demand order, all the teachers which teach morality. They develop and live and seek to communicate their life. They proclaimed what they learn and practise what their heart desires. For them existing state of things are iniquitous and they wish to modify it by implementing new ideal of justice. Freeing their own own minds never suffice them, they dream to emancipate those of other also to liberate the society from all servitude. Contrary to revolutionists, people in favour of evolution seek for gradual unrolling of change by suitable time so that people can digest it and opt it. They let people to evolve according to their ease.
Now the question is whether Pakistan need peaceful, gradual evolution or sudden, violent revolution? Which one is more striking to change the day by day worsening condition of Pakistan? It has been 69 years since the creation of Pakistan but people are justifiably disillusioned with the performance of rulers whether by civilian or by military. No matter it is democracy or marshal law, all are responsible in varying degree for bad governance and lawlessness in Pakistan. Democracy was resumed in Pakistan in 2008 when PPP was elected by people to represent them and to seek solution for their problems. This resuming of democracy after ruling of Marshal Administrator, rekindled a new hope but the ruling party was unable to fulfill expectations of people and PPP failed to meed needs of people as they claim "Roti, Kapra or Makan". Than came PML(N), after five years of PPP and in their tenure Pakistan face the greatest corruption case ever leaked, PANAMA gate scandle, and unfortunately ruling party is part of that case and these days struggling to get a clean chit. PML(N) instead of nominating another PM so that to get satisfactory result of inquiry prefer to continue as it was before and Supreme Court of Pakistan also took too long to start the case and even longer to announce the result to delayed the case for no apparent reason. Case was tactfully handled by making a JIT (joint investigation team) by Supreme Court at the end which is like a mouse investigating a cat. In all this scenario PTI was also active. Imran Khan started by tapping the overwhelming desires of people for change to build up support for PTI. His goal was to secure the mandate of people and for this he choose evolutionary approach of participation in election unlike Tahir-ul-Qadri who prefer long march. But showing distrust on Pakistan election board he joined Tahir- ul - Qadri in locking down Islamabad for 126 days which is moving away from evolutionary change. Beside this he also called for civil disobedience which is like opening of new path in future for others to put their demands before government by hook or by crook. These all scenarios have once again generated a debate whether country needs a revolution or evolution to overcome its grave political, social, and economic crisis.
Now the current situation of Pakistan is like: too much corruption, poverty, terrorism, religious bigotries, inter-provincial clashes, and so many more. But the worst among all is corruption or we can say root cause of all evils as it is directly or indirectly related too all issues. Corruption has caused serious economical issues and the most pathetic fact about corruption is that it has become culture in Pakistan. Everyone of us is corrupt, it starts from grass root level and reaches to top branch and is practised by everyone in this chain.Even the elected politicians are not pure from evil of corruption or they are the most corrupt class in Pakistan. Corruption is directly proportional to poverty which is growing at exponential rate, catalysed by natural calamities. 60-70% of Pakistanis are living in red economic zone which are worst possible economic conditions. Pakistan's economic system lack confidence of people and this is the reason because of which politicians, businessmen and elite class prefer to invest their money in foreign countries and stash away cash in foreign banks. They are well aware of the fact that this system can collapse anytime and that will ultimately result in their loss. Add to this is religious bigotry in Pakistan that has crept into the roots of society and has hollowed them. Everyone here has a different mindset, different believes, and very different school of thoughts and they all cannot see eye to eye on theological and related issues. Everyone regards his school of thought as the best and the only right one and for him all others are "kafir". Cheek by jowl is terrorism committed in the name of religion and is worst and most barbaric way of giving outlet to one's hatred for others. Terrorism has badly polluted minds of people who justify this by verses from Quran but omit the actual context of that verses. Terrorist has forgotten that killing soft targets like innocent children, women, aged people, people without arms is forbidden in Islam. Many steps like Zarb-e-Azab and Operation Rad-UL Fasad has been introduced by Pakistan Army to control abuse of terrorism but sill we cannot claim that we have controlled this even a little bit because chess is won only when we mate king, neither queen nor pawns, only matting king will declare us victorious.
All the grave problems mentioned above at first sight made one to think that revolution is most suitable and quick fix solution of all this and every TOM, Harry and Dick favour revolution. These state of affairs made it difficult for one to take a step back and look at the whole situation in a broad view. But a step back is essential not only to take a right decision but also to stop us leading ourselves to further danger. That one step back will aware one that revolution is not a solution, at least not in Pakistan as this is neither supported by Allah nor history favoured this.
God is the creator of this universe. He created millions of galaxies, thousands of planets, countless creatures and beyond numbers are His creations. These all are well organized and have harmony, there is no flaw in their arrangement or in their formation. They all are just perfect and enhancing beauty of one another by enchanting spell of their artistry formation and one cannot stop oneself to think how simple and complex structures are interwoven to make the most complex universe which is still undiscovered even after billion of years of its creation. But the astonishing fact is, God never created all this in one clap but took seven days to introduce principle of evolution, planning, design, harmony and complete tolerance through this and to set example of how to get best positive results.
History has also favoured evolution instead of revolution as John F. Kennedy says:
"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable".
History has several times prove this quote by noting down revolutions achieved through bloodshed. Lot of people scarify their riches, honor and lives for hollow slogans raised by leaders who like leeches suck all values from them and in return leave them with nothing but a fake hope. Most of the revolutions end up in enforcing the very same dynamics people initially sought to dislodge. All the charm and romance associated with revolution shatter with time and it actually never lighten the burden of tyranny but shift it to another power centre which is as tyrant as before or sometimes a step ahead. Most of the revolutions are actually against monarchs and favoured common man to put him in power. Mot studied revolutions in history are Civil Wars or English revolution which started in 1642, French revolution to abolish monarchy in France which took 100 long years (1789-1889), Chinese revolution in 1912 against Manchu Dynasty, Russian revolution of 1917, and Islamic revolution in Iran to overthrow Shah of Iran. These all are started by frustrated segments of society who were economically discounted. They put them in organisation and demand revolution but its reaction was use of power by those who were in power and this reaction of action result in bloodshed and than acquisition of power by revolutionaries but end result of revolution is always unpredictable like the end of novel. After revolution, people enjoy a brief honeymoon period and celebrate it but when they wake up they realized that the ultimate result of their struggle is slip of power in the hands of radicals and they are slave again but in worst condition than the before: Cromwell in England, Napoleon in France, Stalin in Russia, and Mao in China. Impacts of Kamal Ata Turk in Turkey and Park Chung Hee in South Korea are also unignorable and unforgettable.
Revolution is transfer of power and causes more damage and bring far less social change. That's why keeping in view all the aspects and the lessons taught by history, we can easily estimate that Pakistan is more convenient with evolution because
"Good fashion is evolution not revolution"
(Pierre Balmain)
Pakistanis need to evolve as responsible, free, caring and educated individuals who are willing to help their country in taking it to the road of progress, who practise and allow other to follow whatever their religion is, everyone is treated fairly, take care of their community and contribute positively in its development. We need to evolve but not as a Sindhi, Balochi, Pakhtoon or Punjabi but as a one "Nation". And for all this we need revolution of out minds, our way of thinking and our consciousness because
"Real revolution is the evolution of consciousness".
